As some of you may already be aware, the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) is an important partner in a European funded project being delivered as part of the Valleys Regional Park programme – and I’ve been fortunate enough over the last year or so to be seconded to the project full time.
I was recently able to produce a short video on an exciting project that the partnership has been running over the last 12-months which I thought I’d share with you all.
The Valleys Regional Park Community Ambassador Scheme aims to further promote and enhance the South Wales Valleys as an attractive area for visitors, and inward investment. Through this innovative scheme the Valleys Regional Park project aims to encourage volunteers from across the Valleys to receive free accredited training and become part of the network of “Valleys Ambassadors”.
The partnership believes that it is vital local people be given an active role and voice in the whole visitor experience, and the decisions that are made about their localities. This training is aimed at people who come into contact with visitors either through their work or volunteering such as community groups, staff in the hospitality industry, front of house staff etc.
Once trained an Ambassador provides a knowledgeable point of welcome for visitors into the area, and is able to highlight local heritage attractions, recreation opportunities, and of course where to buy the best cup of tea and experience the famous welcoming valleys culture!
Enough from me, hope you enjoy the video!
